Conductor

Robin McEwan is one of the joint conductors of the Sheffield Chamber Orchestra, sharing the duties with Richard Howarth.

Robin brings to the Sheffield Chamber Orchestra the experience of a conducting career which has been full of variety. As principal conductor of the Jersey Symphony Orchestra he conducted concertos with Nigel Kennedy, Julian Lloyd Webber, Igor Oistrakh, Alexander Markov and John Wallace. He has conducted the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, Royal Ballet Sinfonia, City of Glasgow Philharmonic, and the Northern Chamber Orchestra. In the theatre he has conducted with Birmingham Royal Ballet and has been Assistant Musical Director of the Phantom of the Opera. He is the advanced skills teacher for music in Sheffield, based at Tapton School and leads the 'Powerplus' composing project in secondary schools in collaboration, firstly with the Northern Chamber Orchestra, now with Ensemble 360 culminating in concerts in the Crucible Studio.
