New Friends
We welcome new Friends. If you have enjoyed our concerts and would like to contribute to the continuing success and life of the Orchestra, please consider becoming a Friend of the Sheffield Chamber Orchestra. Every little helps. Please complete the application form, available in a single downloadable document (PDF format).
Existing Friends
If you became a Friend some time ago, please take a few moments to consider whether you might increase the amount which you currently donate. Our costs have risen dramatically in the last few years and interest rates on our savings have fallen, so we need all the financial help we can get. Please use the downloadable application form if you would like to increase your donation. Thank you.
Benefits you get by being a Friend - 'What's in it for me?'
If you donate £30 or more annually (Individual Membership) or £40 or more annually (Dual Membership - two Friends at the same address) you will qualify for the following:
(All Friends will receive items 3, 4 and 5 either by post or e-mail, regardless of size of donation)
Gift Aid
If you pay UK Tax at the standard rate, your financial contribution can be further enhanced at no extra cost to yourself if you complete the Gift Aid declaration on the application form (more information is given on the form). Gift Aid allows us to reclaim from the Inland Revenue an extra 28p for every £1 that you donate, so please make the declaration if you possibly can.
Here is a Downloadable Application Form to become a Friend of the Sheffield Chamber Orchestra (200 KB, PDF format). Please print off this form (there are two parts) and complete both by hand. Please return one part to Janet Alton, Friends Co-ordinator, and send the other part to your Bank.
If you experience any difficulties downloading or using the application form, please contact the Friends Co-ordinator by e-mail.
Thank you for your help - it is much appreciated.
Friends of the Sheffield Chamber Orchestra
** The Orchestra needs your financial support **
Will YOU become a Friend of the Sheffield Chamber Orchestra ?
Janet Alton is the Friends Co-ordinator for the Sheffield Chamber Orchestra. If you have attended some of our recent concerts you may well have noticed her in the foyer campaigning on behalf of the Orchestra. She writes:
"For over fifty years the Sheffield Chamber Orchestra has contributed to the cultural life of the City, consistently offering exciting, enjoyable programmes of music and actively encouraging new young musical talent.
But costs are constantly rising - for instance, hire of rehearsal and concert venues, music hire, soloists' and supplementary players' fees - and Arts Council and other funding has dwindled to almost nothing in recent years.
Under these pressures the Orchestra, like many others, is finding it increasingly difficult to maintain its existence.
In order to help us maintain our standards of excellence - indeed, to ensure our very continuation - we urgently need more funding. Like many amateur orchestras the Sheffield Chamber Orchestra relies entirely for its existence on:
The Orchestra is greatly indebted to the support received from the Friends of the Sheffield Chamber Orchestra, who each make a significant annual donation. We appreciate there are multiple calls on your resources - but a regular and reliable income helps the Sheffield Chamber Orchestra plan ahead."
